My partner and I are considering Rio as a name for our baby boy due in June. What do people think of this name...a name to be teased?! i have an unusual first name and got teased at school (verity) so i want to avoid it but i work as a nursery nurse and see loads of way out there names!! so maybe in 10 years wont be as bad?? also does anyone know how popular the name is in spain?i know it is spanish for river. thanks!! does it make anyone think of footballer Rio Ferdinand? thats what someone has said to me

since it means River in Spanish and Portuguese too, it would work really well if you associate with one of those cultures! Otherwise, I don't think it's that good

I think the name Rio is lovely, My friend named her son Rio and since the day he was born people have commented about what a lovely name it is. So i think you should go for it

It does make me think of Rio Ferdinand, but other than that, its a cute name. Go for it. Ferdinand's only a footballer, he'll disappear off the charts in a few years. Your baby will be around for a lot longer.

I really like it but I think there was a Rio i knew way back when who got teased (but thats mostly because he was a bit bigger than most and they called him Rio Grande...it was just elementary school) I don't think he would be teased though and i really like the name
