Breastfeeding my 5 lb baby

Breastfeeding my 5 lb baby!?
My beautiful little girl was born 4 weeks early on Sunday and weighs only 5 lb. She is still in hospital until she gains a little more weight and has slight jaundice which is also being treated. My problem is that i live in Spain and the nurses speak very little English. My main concern when taking my daughter home is how do I know she's feeding enough as I'm breast feeding? Should I breast feed but also express and give her some via bottle? Any answers/suggestions are welcome as i'm getting a bit worried! Thanks. Thank you for your quick responses. I have just been to feed my daughter and found an English nurse - yeah! So I was able to ask all the questions I had with a good response. I now feel more relaxed and hoping my beautiful wee girl will be coming home tomorrow!

If she's gaining weight and she gets plenty of wet diapers and a couple dirty ones throughout the day (while she's young) then she's getting enough. You can also tell by the color of her stool, it should be a yellowish color (similar to spicy mustard or pumpkin pie).

You should not breastfeed as it is unhealthy. Formula feeding is much better because it is healthier and cleaner.

Congrats! My son was 5lbs 15 ounces at birth and he arrived 3 weeks early. You can either breastfeed directly from the breast (probably best) or supplements with bottles of breast milk.... you can do both of these methods or one or the other, it's up to you, whatever you prefer... You'll know she is feeding enough if she is gaining weight properly and gets a bunch of wets diapers and a couple dirty ones during the day... If you are constantly getting dry diapers then she is not getting enough to eat! Just keep checking her weight and you should be fine.

Just feed her whenever she wants for as long as she wants, that will be enough for her. Even if she is feeding alot, it will still be good for her to have skin to skin contact with you, that can really help babies grow and feel comfort. If you can, just breastfeeding without the bottle would be the best, but if it suits your circumstances, and she will take a bottle, that's ok.

If we are stationed overseas, can I still attend nursing school

If we are stationed overseas, can I still attend nursing school?
my husband is the active duty member. We will be stationed at Rota, Spain I'm refering to on base, through the military, not off base in the local community. I don't know if there is a program there, that's what I am trying to find out. Yggdrasil: WOw. what was all that about? You asked me question (is there an accredited program on base) so I answered you. I said I didn't know that's what I am trying to find out. And to me ot is a no brainer that you can't take nursing online.....I never thought you could. I actually thought your answer was the best until you lost your cool. What provoked you? And further more, if you KNEW there were no such programs at Rota (as you stated in your edit) why did you ask ME if there was (in the beginning of your answer?) Obviously if I KNEW if there was such a program I wouldn't have been on here asking, right?

not really no. Most Local programs are not recognized by the US...and unless you are a Native speaker it's not like youd be able to understand anything anyway. any training you get overseas may not be acceptable to take the licensing exams stateside. ETA: No there are no RN or BSN programs on base. mostly business or CJ degrees. and forget going online you wouldn't be able to do your clinical from Spain.

Best bet is to check with the education office in Rota. Odds are though that there is nothing there for you, unless you can do it online. I don't know about Spain, but the colleges that offer classes usually do so in business admin, management, and such. Go to: Military Homefront Plan my move NS Rota Education office It even has info about the colleges that are there and also has contact info for the station. From what I saw, it looks like the typical offerings. Good luck! Edit:Yggdrasil... take a chill pill! As odd as it sounds, there are awful programs out there that let people get degrees in just about everything and anything, without clinicals or practicums. I've even seen Teacher ed programs where you don't step foot in a classroom. Scary but true. Also, I've known ladies who have been able to wipe out most of their classroom work with online classes, and then do their practicums, clinicals, and specialty classes when they got back to the states.

A movie with two women and a man. Love triangle, WW2, Paris, Spanish civil war. Anyone know the title? Thanks

A movie with two women and a man. Love triangle, WW2, Paris, Spanish civil war. Anyone know the title? Thanks?
The two women were lovers, the man was in love with the blond. The Spanish nurse was killed in Spain's civil war. The blonde, Hilda, was apparently killed for being a nazi sympathizer at the end of the movie in Paris. Anyone know the name of the movie???
