Please read my story..............and tell me what you think>>>> I HAVE TO PRESENT TOMORRW >>>>>>>> PLZ PLZL P?
Lily was walking down the street on day and she saw a little boy playing on the street. The boy looked like he was 3 or 4 years old. Lily wondered where his parents were and why was a little baby outside alone in the street. She looked at the boy and he was happily playing with a basketball. But all of a sudden everything changed because Lily saw a huge truck going straight down the street and honking, Lily thought that the truck would stop, she ran to the middle of the road, in front of the boy and showed a stop sign with her hand but the truck didn’t seem to start stopping. So Lily grabbed the child and covered the head and the neck with her hand to protect him a little bit. She looked both ways but on one side there was a tall fence right by the road and on the other side there were cars passing really fast. She couldn’t do anything because the fence was too tall and too close to the truck and that would hurt them even more she thought. So all of sudden Lily just turn away from the truck and tell the boy to hide and not look back. They were both scared. But then all of a sudden Lily feels a huge push on her back and falls. It felt like 50 knives going behind her and stabbing her in the back. That’s all Lily felt. Then Lily woke up and felt a little bit sick, her back didn’t hurt but it burned so bad. Then she opened her eyes and saw the police, paramedics, and firefighters. She got frightened and suddenly tried to get up, but the paramedic said “Don’t get up, you’ll be alright.” Lily was scared she was tons of people looking at her and some were even crying. Then she saw something red on herself, she realized, its blood. She got even more frightened, because she did not know what had happened to her, but it all came back when she saw 4 paramedics taking the little boy to the hospital. Then Lily remembered what had happened. The paramedics took Lily to the hospital and Lily got an x-ray taken, and then she started to fell vey sleepy. She knew that she would have to go to surgery. Six minutes later Lily was sleeping and the doctors were taking her to the surgery room. But before the surgery Lily heard the doctor saying that she had 2 broken ribs and a lot of damage to her back. She also broke her arm. After the surgery she woke up in a room, and felt really bad, her back didn’t burn anymore it hurt. She felt like she was spinning around the room. Her back wasn’t the only thing that was hurting her, her arm was broken in 3 places. But Lily didn’t really care, she was just happy to be alive. She tried to remember the little boy that she had tried to save. She thought that he had died because the hit was so strong. When the nurse came in to see how Lily was doing Lily didn’t want to respond to the nurse when the nurse tried to ask her how many fingers she was holding up, she was asking to nurse to tell her about the baby boy. “Is he okay?” She asked “Don’t worry he’s fine!” the Nurse said “Now can you please tell me how many fingers I’m holding up?” “Is the baby hurt badly?” Asked Lily “Okay the boy is not hurt badly he has some scratches on his head and a broken arm that’s it.” How many fingers do I have” Asked the nurse for the third time. “Four!” Replied Lily “Thank you!” the nurse said back. The nurse asked Lily how old she was and where her parents are. Lily told the burse that they are in Spain on a vacation and they will be back in 7 weeks. She also told them that she was 19 years old. And lived alone in a huge house. When the nurse took the information and left. Lily tried to get up to go and try to find the little boy, but her back hurt too much to get up. She was so tired so she just fell asleep. But the nurse went to see the little boy and his mom. The nurse found out that the little boy had went out of the living room and got out of his room and somehow ended up in side. His brothers were there and they were inside too, when the baby went outside. They also told the nurse that the baby boys name was Joey. His moms name was Elizabeth. The 2 brother’s names were Brad and Brandon, they were twins and they did not have a dad because he was in prison. The nurse also told the family about, the girl that saved Joey, Lily. The mother wanted to see Lily, but the nurse said that she couldn’t because only family is allowed to see the patients. The doctor gave Joey a couple of bandages and a cast for his left arm, and let him go home. Lily was out of the hospital 8 days later. She go home and there her whole family was there celebrating her arrival. After the party everyone went home and Lily was left alone at her apartment sitting on the couch. She thought about the little boy. She wanted to see him. At the Werner house everyone was alright and it was quite, but all of a sudden they hear a knock on the door. Brad the biggest brother went up to the door and saw his dad in the door. He ran to his mother and told her that it was him. The mom ran to the other twin and told them that his dad

I only read a little...You really need to work on sentence flow and grammar. Do this by reading it out loud to yourself, it'll help. -Morbid Poet

You do have some good things to work with...an exciting sounding idea. If you are reading the story out loud for your presentation you have less work to do...if you have to turn in a written copy you have a lot of punctuation and sentence structure stuff work on....try getting someone to read it over in person and make corrections. You also need to pick a verb tense and stick with it--even for reading aloud it takes the reader out of the story if you are switching from "Lily felt" to "Lily feels" .... Also "She go home" isn't correct--she went home....Keep it all past tense is my recommendation. The first 10 lines are better and clear than the rest--good luck. Amy

Great Job!
2 :
You'll probably want to run grammar and spell check on it. You'll also probably not want to put uncopywritten work up on the internet where anyone can steal it and use it for whatever they want and you have no legal grounds.
3 :
That was very good although you may want to check your grammar, it was over all very well written. ^_^
4 :
i love it!!!!!!!!! you use good discription and i love your writing style post the rest....i am intriged how old are you..what happens what is the signifigence of the dad who hit them and why didn't they stop..... my only suggestion is think about not using her name so much Dont be like....lily,lily,lily I love it though and i want to read more
5 :
When i first began reading it, it just felt as if you were telling me the plot, if you know what i mean, like you need emotion in your story. Like adjectives, nouns, feeling. Sentences are too short Okay plot though.Keep it up
6 :
What I'll put here will, I hope, be of great help to you. The very first sentence is written in such a 'passive voice' I didn't continue reading. The verbs are passive and the repetition is passive. Just as an example of writing in a more 'active voice' for that sentence: "Lily walked down the street and saw a little boy playing there." Suggest you follow the link to Wiki below for more simple examples of active vs. passive voice writing, and if you are really interested in 'help'... [it says Grammatical voice] ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammatical_voice ...Once you're there, hit your end key (soon) to 'External Links,' where there is a great site you reach by clicking on it: "Online analyzer of active and passive voice in writing." Go for it. Best of luck with your work. ADD: If you ever want to publish a piece, it IS a good idea not to put much online about it... though you must NOT get a copyright [!], since legally even as you write the work it is yours (just put your name and a date in the header and always keep a copy at home)... This is because copyright is what a publisher (magazine or book) buys. Read The Writer's Market, first section, a lot. Please don't resort to vanity press, now called 'self-publication,' unless you have deep pockets and lots of bookseller contacts or don't want to ever see your work in a store.
7 :
THIS IS A REALLY REALLY REALLY GREAT STORY. I COULDNT STOP READING I JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT PLEASE SEND THE WHOLE STORY WHEN EVER YOU ARE DONE TO party_likearock@yahoo.com I REALLY WANT TO READ THE REST OF IT

Imagining, dreaming, and having life goals are good things, but it is wise to let life surprise you. Learn the value in the unexpected, not in what is expected. What you have scripted may seem ideal for you right now, but if you hold on to these visions too tightly, they will more than likely end up not pleasing you as much as you think or you will miss greater pleasures than these things are likely to provide. As the saying goes, be very careful what you wish for because it might just come true. There's another "rule" worth remembering: stuff owns you and controls you at least as much as you own or control your stuff. Something to ponder, anyway.

outer ear infection

outer ear infection?
i have just got back from a holiday in spain where i did a lot of swimming.. i had servere pain in my ear and the day after i got home my mum took me to the doctors, where i saw a nurse. she diagnosed an outer ear infection. ottis something. and prescribed eardrops she said it would start clearing up after a day. that was on tuesday and it is getting more painful, my mum is telling me to be patient. my ear canal is swollen so i got told to take ibruprofen, but i can only take them with food, which i havent been eating because when i move my jaw it hurts considerably. my hearing is dull also, which i cannot stand and it keeps me a sleep at night, the past two nights i have had less than 7 hours sleep. what should i do?

well hi sorry to hear about your infection my mother has an ear infection and she takes tablets to help with the pain if you have drops put them in before you go to sleep and put a cotton bud in your ear then take it out in the morning and wrap it in something and take it to the doctors and ask them to see if your ear is leaking from the inside hope that works
2 :
Ask Mum to make an appointment with the DOCTOR, it sounds like an infection and you could need antibiotics. If its affecting your jaw now its getting worse not better.Have you tried resting your head on a hot water bottle, protected, or a wheat bag. They may ease the pain. Paracetamol or aspirin would be better than ibuprofen.
3 :
Are you running a fever? If so ear drops aren't working you need antibotics .Keep you hear warm like sleeping on a heating pad. If you have pains in your jaw Call the Dr. office tell them what is going on(i meanget your momto call ) they should have you pick up some drugs at a pharmacy> Don't keep on letting it go onyou'll lose your hearing!
4 :
I think I would get a second opinion, its not normal for the pain to get worse. Swimmers ear is another name for what you have. The drops really should have cleared it up.

What's wrong with someone possessing alot of White racial pride

What's wrong with someone possessing alot of White racial pride?
I have alot of love for my White race and people tend to confuse it with racism, which is not the case!,I am far from being a racist,I just have what is called preferences, like for example I only date White females,If I travel out of the Country,it is always to Europe(Spain,Italy,Portugal etc..),I only eat at European restaurants & establishments,I only have White American & White European friends,I only wear clothing and shoes that were made in Europe,I plan for my future White children to be born in either Italy or Spain since I want all the medical team(Doctors, nurses)to be White.etc...

Because usually whites who LOVE their race HATE others.... not ALL but many times that is the case *Also the White race as a whole does not have it as hard as other races in this country had/have it....there's no need for Whites to express their "pride"....it doesn't look good*
2 :
I'm sorry, i stopped reading before the first sentence even ended
3 :
There's nothing wrong with appreciating the white race. But I think it's kind of close-minded to ONLY want to be around white people only. Diversity is a good thing and it makes the world a beautiful place. Without it things would be pretty dull. just sayin.
4 :
because the kkk are known for having it...
5 :
Nothing. Minorities are just hypocritical whinebags.
6 :
It's wrong because pride is a sin, according to the Bible. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_deadly_sins
7 :
If your white child was dying & the only available doctor was black..........would you still cling so pathetically to your white pride?
8 :
Well because historically when whites have a lot "white pride" they are usually against other racial groups. Nothing wrong with white people loving who they are and their culture or ethnic group but when it's to the extreme like running around yelling white power that's not cool.
9 :
Right. you are not racist i gues but you are abit crazy
10 :
nothing. if you read people like ya dig's answers it's obvious that she suffers from white guilt.
11 :
yes because white pride usually involves cross burnings, lynch mombs, neck tie parties and black church bombings. it is also the same reason u dont see a lot of germans going about and proclaiming germanic pride, because we all know what happened the last time http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AnsIiG1Ina.lt6QIx0PLW33vDH1G;_ylv=3?qid=20100423091045AAucePr
12 :
if that pride leads on to something bigger like hate, then its a problem like its alright to really like your race and take some pride in what they've accomplished but taking part in other cultures is never a bad thing im Mexican but i LOVE Chinese and Greek mythology and im a big fan of Chinese and Italian food i love my culture, my people, and food but i dont mind others just dont let your pride hinder you from partaking in other cultures, because who knows, your perfect match may not be white, and thats not a bad thing : )
13 :
There's nothing wrong with it, but the things you are doing are very lame...
14 :
White pride used to equal killing other people simply because they weren't white-including other white people who weren't deemed "white enough". If you can change that image, go ahead.
15 :
"White" is not a race. Caucasian is the race, and even then, not all Caucasians are considered white by whites.

WHITE IS RITE WHITE IS PURE HOSPITALS ARE ALWAYS WHITE BECAUSE WHITE IS CLEAN

Recalled for PAP Smear

Recalled for PAP Smear?
I went for a smear test on the 29th July and the nurse told me it would take about 2 months for the results....she said they would only call me if the results came back abnormal so if I didnt hear from her by the end of September then just come back for another yearly smear test next July. Well the nurse phoned me yesterday (I live in Spain by the way) and she said I have to go see the Gynecologist on the 7th of January....I asked was there something wrong and she said no its just procedure and not to worry....she said if there was something wrong I would have heard from them before now and they would be giving me an appointment straight away and not for a months time. I´m just wondering has this happened to anyone else...and why would they be calling me back....I´m very very nervous about test results and worry myself sick thinking about it.....should I be worried?

I asked why i had to do this and he replied it helps the skin stretch so he wont have any probs as an adult. I have never heard this, we live and spain and speaking to other mums it is common here. I dont feel comfortable doing this to him. I have spoken to freinds and relatives in england and they have never heard fo it before. My husband who is english has never heard of it either. I dont want to do this to him if its not necessary. Has anybody else heard of this? thanks for replying, he is not circumcised. thanks again for the answers they are very helpful xx

If he circumcised it is absolutely necessary. The skin on the head of the penis can regrow and cause a lot of problems. If it regrows from not being pulled back some children end up needing surgeries. So if he's circumcised, make sure you pull the skin back to clean it every time you change him. If he is uncircumcised, as far as I know, it's a no-no to pull the skin back. Make sure if you ever have questions to ask your nurse or doctor, so that you fully understand. You want to make sure you know the correct way to care for it hygienically, circumcised or not to avoid infections. Good luck.
2 :
Absolutely NOT! You do NOT (and SHOULD NOT) retract the foreskin on an infant! It's not meant to be separated from the head of the penis this early! It will retract on its own when your son is older. Never, EVER force the foreskin back from the penis in an infant - you can damage him!
3 :
My son's pediatricians said that the skin on his penis should go down fully by the time he is 2 or 3 YEARS old and that we should not force it down - under no circumstances. However, he is not circumcise - in that case, I wouldn't know what to do. It did happen once, that the skin slip on my fingers when I was cleaning his penis and I couldn't get it back up. It got sort of stuck down there. I had to call the doctor to get it back up. As all of this when on, blood was making his penis "enlarge" and it was getting uncomfortable for my son... It was extremely stressful. So, from now on - I never push it. I'm really careful about it. It will go down when it's time.
4 :
I have two little boys and have always been told to never ever retract the foreskin this is something they will do themselves!!
5 :
There is no way I would do that. It sounds like it could cause more problems than anything! I'm English and I've never been told such a thing. My son will be three in January and has no problems.

The only thing that I can help you with is to get you in the right frame of reference. Women in the 18th century were not military or hospital "nurses" in the sense we know today. A nurse was the caregiver to someone else's infant. Women that helped give support to soldiers in those times were called "camp followers". In later wars that term came to mean the prostitutes that accompanied armies but in the 18th century it refered to any civilian male or female that helped the cause for love or profit. Women camp followers were almost always married in order to be respectable. If a husband died she went home or remarried immediately, usualy to a tentmate of her late husband. There were no single women allowed among the enlisted men. The only single woman that might be found in a camp or fort would be the sister, daughter, aunt or widowed mother of a high ranking officer. Female camp followers cooked, hauled water and wood, laundered clothing and foraged for food to support the efforts of the soldiers. On the battlefield they along with male camp followers (surgeons, merchants, tradesmen, scouts) bravely went about unarmed tending to the wounded, bringing water to the front lines, dragging the wounded (particularly their family members or friends) out of harm's way. The "nursing" done was cleaning and binding of wounds. Most women were handy with a needle and could stitch simple wounds.Larger wounds would be cauterized by burning with brand, hot tar or hot pitch. Antiseptics and antibiotics, in fact sanitation was unknown.Women and male surgeons washed and reused bandages. So take this scene set here and apply it to whatever battle you research.

Why won't my girlfriend commit

Why won't my girlfriend commit?
I am 24 and my girlfriend is 21. We have been together for 3 years. She is Spanish and I am English. I moved to Spain a year ago. I do not speak spanish, she speaks fluent english. We do not live together and have never lived together. It has come to the stage now in the relationship where I really feel I need commitment from her i.e. her moving in with me, and both of us helping each other in life more. I have not forced this at all with her. I am starting to get fed up with her not commuting and due to this I am very slowly loosing interest in her. I no longer ask her to come and see me as I know she will say no unless the time suits her perfectly or only if I offer something (concert, a trip etc). She comes and goes when she wants. She does not inconvenience herself even slightly to be with me permanently, nor does she put any amount of effort in to persuade me to be with her. She went abroad for 3 months on an international university exchange program and refused to go to any effort to create a split rent agreement for me to stay with her. I feel she doesn't want to commit to me and wants to hang on to her parent’s nest egg, her extremely close group of friends in her city (not try and make new friends) and she says she will only travel to work abroad with her friends. I live in the larger city very close to hers (20mins) - Originally I lived in her city and I was forced to moved as my landlord sold his house. Recently her contract for work finished and I suggested she could come and spend some days looking for a job in my city. She could have been living with me during this time with a 20 minute commute close to her work. I pointed her to some job offers on the internet for nursing and my flat mate found a temporary job she could have had in the mean time. She never contacted anything i sent her coming up with excuses ‘they don’t pay well’ (sometimes even when no salaries listed on website), ‘too many people will go for that job’ and I said ‘you don’t know if you don’t try, if the money is not ok you can say no’. Instead she stayed at home all day watching tv series on her own. I work from home on my business and am alone all day while it isn’t her responsibility to be there for me it seems strange her staying at her home alone and not being with me when she is doing nothing. She could even watch tv here! Her mum found her a job in another city which is 45 mins away from me. I knew immediately that she would choose not to commute and cause any hassle for herself in order to be with me. I tried to stay positive when i was asking her about what she was going to do (i already really knew the answer – stay at home or not be with me somehow), then she started telling me about how she is going to rent somewhere in the other city. Of course this will end up costing her more than commuting if she was staying with me. I have no idea what to do, I love her but if this goes on much longer I don’t know how much I can take. She goes to no effort at all and will only do something if its easy for her. I often feel she treats me like a toy and can't act like an adult. Any advice appreciated thanks.

Tell her everything you told us here. She has to know that you feel this way, and girls love honesty. Good Luck.
4 :
She sounds very immature and selfish. This is hard but I would either ask her to go into couples counseling with you or end the relationship. It's a 2 way street and it sounds like she just doesn't care enough to make any effort.
5 :
oh my gosh. seriously talk to her about this. if she dosent understand she really must be selfish. break up with her, its obvious that she only wants to use you as some "tool" so she has something to do when she's got nothing else to do
9 :
You are loving someone who cannot love you back as you need. Forget what she says if she says she loves you. She doesn't. When you love someone, you want to share your life with them. You deserve better treatment and lots of love. You won't find it with her as she's already shown you by her actions what she thinks of you. It's hard, but you must forget her and move on. Consider it a lesson learned, and don't beat yourself up over it. We all want to be loved and are sometimes blinded by that fact. Bless you, and good luck.
10 :
because shes not ready for a commited relationship, she with you until something better comes along sort to speak. Imaybe you should end the relationship, dont waste your time on her any longer and find someone who is ready to start a relationship.
11 :
this was kinda long(i kinda skimmed) but dude no relationship will work without communication..tell her wats upp?? whyy are u not commiting to me?? is thier somehting going on?? are u lossing intrest in me?? if this isnt going to work out i dont want to waster your time and mine...we need to figure out something bceause the situation and me cant go on much longer COMMUNICATION IS KEY MAKE THE BIGGEST EFFORT TO TALK TO HER IN A CALM NICE WAYYY!!!!! GOOD LUCK=]]]]
12 :
you made some serious sacrifices and she has made none .She is taking you for granted .I would say ,give her an ultimatum ,and if she can't decide ,give her up.You'll torture yourself otherwise.
13 :
It sounds to me like she has lost interest in you. When you're in a relationship you're supposed to help and support each other and it doesn't seem like she wants you to do that for her. It doesn't sound like a healthy relationship to me at all. She should be wanting to experience her life with you. If it was me, I would take my boyfriend with me rather than my friends. She's not making an effort for you to be in her life. Just tell her how you feel. That you want to be in her life more. But she doesn't have to move in with you. She should at least want to spend a lot of time with you, though. If she doesn't come around and be more appreciative of you, I'd break up with her. It sounds like you are trying to make this work and she's not. Which is not fair to you at all. I hope my advice has helped!
14 :
She's just trying to live a little while she's young. Maybe you should do the same. Go on some trips on your own. See some new things and meet some people. And not to be rude, but how much of an inconvenience will you withstand for her? You've been in her country for a year, but you haven't learned her language? And she has a job that requires her to come in, but you can work from your home, wherever that may be. Why can't you move to her new city and work from there? Maybe you need to put your relationship on hold temporarily. It seems like she really needs to sort things out for herself, and I'd bet you do too in a way.
15 :
You know what? Leave her. Go get a new girl who respects you more and wants to be with you more. But watch, when you tell her you're done, she'll come back to you telling you she misses you and wants you back. It's your choice to go back or not. Who knows, the right girl might be waiting for you while your current girlfriend is just pulling you back?

15 month old baby removed

15 month old baby removed?
In Spain a 15 month old baby has been removed from her mother because she breastfeeds her. Sounds incredulous? It's true and this type of scenario should not be happening in society in this day and age. Please read and sign the petition. http://www.examiner.com/new-moms-in-wilmington/mother-and-child-separated-due-to-extended-breastfeeding-protesters-to-gather Join the Worldwide Mothers support Habiba! IMMF Give her baby back facebook group. http://www.facebook.com/WeAreAllHabiba?sk=wall This is from a medical document found on the facebook link stating the documented reasons for the child's removal: "The document begins by stating that, "it is hard for Habiba to respond adequately to the needs of Alma and she is not aware of the inadequacy of certain behaviors which can involve risk and neglect". In the next paragraph it is said, "eating patterns and sleep hygiene (Alma’s ) are not adequate” and then the above statements are justified with the following arguments each of which I shall discuss: "The hours and type of food are chaotic" and " she uses breastfeeding as a pacifier and a toy, offering her breast any time the girl cries and letting her take it anywhere, no matter the time and context in which this happens (offices, corridors) "She gives her the pureed food that is already prepared by the shelter, but also other solid foods that are inappropriate for her age (like the ones Habiba eats). Over the weekends when she needs to make the pureed fruit herself, more often she doesn’t and breastfeeds instead. " "We attempted to regularize and limit breastfeeding times, but it did not seem possible, so the possibility of stopping breastfeeding was raised ...." "... she continued to breastfeed. She was given pacifiers, but she didn’t use them either" "She (Alma) does not have proper sleep patterns. From the first moment Habiba didn’t want the girl to sleep in her cot and she lies with her in her own bed. She uses the cot to drop off things and toys and on very rare occasions to leave the girl ... " This woman left an abusive relationship and seeked help in a woman's shelter. The shelter's policies on nursing and infant care contradict the AAP and the WHO guidelines. There is worldwide public support. There are peaceful protests you can join. Please help. No, this isn't a hoax/ And this mother was supplementing her child with solid food. BUT one of their issues was the mother was feeding the child table food instead of the purees that the shelter prepared. It is absolutely insane. The mother was breastfeeding on demand. Which is perfectly healthy and desirable. Thank you so much for reading this and answering. I was afraid nobody would bother! I don't have facebook so just trying to get this out to as many people as possible. With all due respect: I've read the translated medical reports and the official documentation reasoning why the child was removed. The child is of a healthy weight. The child is not malnourished. One of the issues the shelter had was that the child wasn't eating just pureed food but the same food as the mother. Nutritionally, it is much better for a 15 month old child to be eating family food-NOT purees. Breastmilk is more calorie dense than most solid food a 15 month old eats. Many 15 month old toddlers have very small appetites and breastmilk (or cows milk) is the main source of nutrition for the child Please, read the medical reports. You've made assumptions when the evidence supports the mother.

OMG! I was hoping this was a hoax, I have looked everywhere for proof that it is but it seems it isn't. How can this happen in Spain. I will be finding a way to protest. There HAD to be other ways to get the mother to give her child age appropriate food. I'm not saying you shouldn't breastfeed at 15 months, I have an 18 month old. I do still breastfeed him but it is no longer his main source of food and at 15 months she should have been moving onto solid food. This woman was in an abusive relationship, she clearly needed help, this is barbaric! ETA I have found out that there are two people on the case, a very good spanish lawyer and a pediatrician is assessing both mother and child in an attempt to re-unite them. I have a spanish friend who breastfed all 4 of her kids until they were 3. I will pass this on to her and share on facebook. I'm sure there is more to the story, but anyway, but I doubt it can justify this.
2 :
From what I have read, the child was not removed because the mother breastfed, the child was removed because the mother refused after several attempts to nourish her child properly. The article states that on weekends the mother solely breastfeeds, this in not sufficient nourishment for a child of 15 months. This mother is neglecting her child by solely breastfeeding. What exactly is the problem with authorities stepping in to ensure that baby Alma is properly fed? The mother WAS neglecting her child by not feeding her properly on weekends.

What book would you recommend for learning Spanish as a third language

What book would you recommend for learning Spanish as a third language?
Hello. I speak English as my native language, and Swedish as my second. I'm a junior in high school, and want to learn the Spanish language so that when I graduate nursing school, landing a job will be easier. I lalready have the basics down, because I took it in 7th & 8th grade. I'm looking for a detailed book that doesn't just chunk vocabulary words at you and expect you to string together proper sentences with that alone. I have tried Rosetta Stone and I don't think it really teaches in a guided scenario well enough. I'll use it for pronunciation and listening skills, but that's all. I guess I should mention I'd prefer Latin American (Mexican) Spanish over European Spanish (Spain). Thanks.

I advice you this old FSI free course download: http://storage.freelanguagecourses.com/spanish_programmatic_complete.zip (316MB). http://fsi-language-courses.org/Content.php?page=Spanish (This free website will provide with FSI courses with individual pdf, and mp3s).

There's no experience as actually living in the country itself. You will learn Spanish much quicker and have fun while doing it. If this opportunity is open to you, check out summer language schools in various countries. The Spanish-speaking country I loved the most is Costa Rica. The people are the nicest in the world, the country is absolutely beautiful and many younger people do speak English. There's a mentality in the country that makes the population quite unique. What do you expect from a nation without a military and a fourth of the country is protected in park reserves? Check out the website for the University of Costa Rica. You could also become an exchange student. I'm not sure where you are from, although you do speak Swedish, I'm assuming that you're from the USA or Canada since you are more interested in LA(Mexican) Spanish. Mexico is also a wonderful country, I've been there several times and enjoyed myself. Opportunities for Spanish language school is also available in Mexico, I personally loved Guadalajara. As far as a book is concerned, I've never encountered one that could match the personal experience-there is a special Spanish that you will never learn in a book. Buena suerte guero y Ojala que le vaya bien en sus estudios del idioma espanol.

Please help! Wanting to move to France

Please help! Wanting to move to France?
I am a 24 year old RN from the US who wants to move to France. I have 2 years nursing experience, I am a US RESIDENT (not citizen), and I have an EU citizenship (my parents are from Spain.). I speak English and Spanish fluently, and I speak French as well (just have some trouble with some grammar sometimes...haha, but I'm taking classes now so I would fix that before I move.) Do you think I am a good candidate to move to France? I'm dying to go...I've been there quite a couple times, and I studied abroad there during college. I have a couple of friends there who are natives as well. How hard do you think it would be for me to get a job? I appreciate all of your help and please, give advice if you have any! Thanks again :)

As a EU citizen you have the right to settle and work in France without needing a visa. What you need is to find a job, and right now 10% of our active population is trying to do the same. You also have to choose a place, France might look small to someone from a continent state but it is still 1000 kms wide and tall, the biggest European country, with wildly different climates and settings. Cold sea, warm sea, mountains, plains, hills, volcanoes... you have it all here. What you will also need is to check if your nursing degree is accepted in France. It might be that they ask you to retake it, in French. Why don't you contact the American hospital in Paris, they might be able to help you. https://www.american-hospital.org/index.php?L=0

Truro is the only city in Cornwall, it has some nice shops at Lemon Quay and it has a reasonable nightlife, work is pretty scarce at the moment, but their are usually vacancies for carers, but you must appreciate that the cost of living is high in Cornwall but wages are low, you should be able to sell your pets, i would have thought.

Can your heart's desires be telling you something

Can your heart's desires be telling you something?
I'm Southern Baptist but haven't been to church lately. I'm going through this period in my life where I'm a bit confused; I'd like to teach English abroad and I have my certificate. I have studied abroad three times; twice in Mexico, once in Spain. I never felt like I belonged in USA and when I went abroad I felt accepted and the sense of belonging I never had in USA and my heart was there. I haven't readjusted and never will, and I know in my heart I don't belong here. No one believes me but they don't undrstand what it's like to be me. I have been profoundly depressed because I feel out of place in US culture. I don't wanna adjust; I wanna leave and never return. I would like to return to Mexico and teach but every time I discuss my plans with people, they freak out and tell me how dangerous it is. I don't agree with that 100% but I am so afraid that my parents will suffer. I have done some soul searching and know in my heart I need to be back there but no one believes me. I have had experiences in both countries, some good and some horrible and I feel like the answer has been revealed to me. I don't think Mexico is unreasonably dangerous but even if it is, I think that you have to take chances. I don't think it's likely that I'll be shot or die from violence, but even if it were, I'm gonna die anyway, as are all of us. An even WORSE death would be to be dying in a wet depend in some nursing home, wondering what would have happened if I had taken risks in life and wishing I had followed my heart. I mean if I go down there and take a chance... at least I'll have my answer. That's what's gonna happen if I don't go. I never married and don't have any kids and probably never will and I won't have anyone to love me when I'm old. I feel sad leaving my parents behind, but strangely it makes me even sadder to leave my dog. You non pet people will laugh but I love her more than I'll ever love any living thing; I'd die for her. I feel guilty about abandoning her. She is my mom's dog and she belongs to our whole famly, so she'd be cared for, but who knows what animals think? My mom says to turn it over to God and that God will reveal the right answer to you. She says, "God speaks through others sometimes..." If it's my heart's desire to return to mexico, and I know in my heart I belong there, well... would my heart lie to me? I had some terrible experiences here in USA but I have learnt a lot from them. I did an internship at a high school here and the kids were exceptionally cruel to me. I had a regular job in an office years ago and hated it. I'm just not ready to settle down and close the book on adventures! I'm not sure if my ambition is risky, but I know it's the right choice. Can your heart's desire reveal Gods will for your life? To me I feel like God's knocking me upside the head with a 2x4 when my heart speaks to me... "get outta North Carolina and go back to mexico NOW!!!!" But everyone thinks I'm an idiot for wanting to do this. No one thinks I'm smart enough to make good decisions. It makes me cry...

I hate to break it to you, but your heart doesn't have any "desires." It's a mass of muscle that pumps blood, and it's not the seat of our source of any thought, emotion, desire, or anything else. And it can't tell the truth or lie, because all it does is pump blood. Once you realize that, and recognize that your "heart's desire" is a product of the thoughts in your brain, you might gain some more control over your emotions and be able to make better (more rational) decisions. Evaluate your situation. Look at the pros and cons of various options. Then decide what the best course of action would be for you. Once you decide, stick to it and work hard at it. Good luck, and peace.

Go out travel no matter what anybody says. Just do whatever does most for you in the end, like an education. There's nothing that can be done sitting around and waiting for an answer that will never come, if you want get out and follow your dream, you do it yourself.
3 :
You are smart enough to teach and smart enough to know that you feel better outside of the US than you do in it. Your parents may miss you but you have said that you'll be happier. So trust in *yourself* and your own intellect and just go for it!

How could anything be dangerous if you are sitting in the hand of the mighty God.. this is a horrible country for a religious person to be. Our society is largely sexually obsessed, as seen in the media that they constantly shove at us. Are government is only a few steps away from outlawing religion altoghetr.. Go where your heart tells you to go. I am single and have that whole what am I supossed to be doing with this life thing. If you feel passionate about something, pursue it. I can also relate to the part that you are drwn to hispanics. I am kind of a big scary dork of a man and people always look at me funny..When I meet Asian (oriental) people they respond to me easily. I feel at ease with them.. I've thought about going to China to preach the word. I think it is dangerous there for christians, but what else would I do? Go for your goals
5 :
soooo whats with your "free will"? its your choice and only yours... no one ties you down here ...get the ticket today. make sure you go to a good christian church and read the bible ,,,and pray while out there. if this does not work for some reason.....become a missionary. continue to belive in your heart.

No, not for one year. Many CC have great two year career programs Sorry, are you in the US or the UK? It makes a difference- each works very differently

UT is not particularly competitive to get into if you're going for a regular liberal arts degree, and your extracurriculars seem to be very good. The school is so big, that there is room to let a lot of people in. There is the slight possibility of spots filling up because of the 10% rule, but even so, there are ways to get it by doing the probationary summer semester, or starting at Austin Community College which has a direct transition to UT if you have the grades. And make sure you get the Texas residency, tuition is sooooo much more affordable that way.

A couple of days ago I brought a guy friend over in the clinic so he can see my dad and when I came in with him, I noticed that he was looking at me but he had a weird look on his face :-/ we haven't really talk much, but when i look at him he always smile so sweet at me...but I don't want to look at him because there's other people there and might think is weird... I've been ignoring him because I don't want to start any rumors of him or me:( he has noticed that I've been ignoring him...I don't want to ignore him because I really like him but I'm all confused and don't know what to do :( Just 2days ago, he found out from my dad that I speak fluent mandarin and cantonese and when my dad says something of me, he always tends to want to know:) How can I show him I like him without being too despreate? he is a pure Chinese guy...born and raised in china with a cute accent:) he speaks Spanish too;) I'm a mix race of Spanish, Chinese, Korean, and Spain.... and i speak fluent Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, and English of course... You should check & make sure whether he already had a girlfriend or not.Because,(I'm not racist,-60% of my friends are chinese) but i think it is normal for chinese guys to date more than 1 girls at the same time.most of my chinese friends do.to them, the will have one real girlfriend that they will want to marry but they will consider other girlfriends as spare-part just for fun & happy hour. This just my view,i'm not racist..btw i also mix>Malay+Arab+chinese+jew

Translator/Interpreting in the US armed forces

Translator/Interpreting in the US armed forces?
Hey guys, I have a few questions about whether becoming a translator/interpreter in the US armed forces is a good career path. A little background on me might help pout so here it goes: I am currently in college working towards a degree in the social sciences, I am US born and raised but of Lebanese heritage and have lived there when I was younger as well as in other Middle-Eastern and North African countries as well as in many other countries around the world (such as Mexico, Thailand, Spain, Malaysia, Morocco, Tunisia and Guatemala) and am quite fluent in Spanish and French though my Arabic ironically is only rudimentary but even though I can read and write it (albeit poorly). My friend in the national guard suggests strongly that I should become an interpreter/translator in the US armed forces because I love to learn about culture, traveling, learning foreign languages and have a talent for it. I have been planning on going into nursing but I have doubts as to whether it would be right for me, also my sister is a nurse and she says that i would hate it (from what she knows about me). I have also heard that interpreters/translators in the US armed forces make around 150k a year, is this true or highly exaggerated as it seems to me. Finally, my last question is, what branch of the US Armed forces are best to work in as a translator/interpreter in terms of pay, adventure, benefits, etc..? I have babbled on long enough, any advice or educated opinions and personal expertise in these fields would be very much appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Any branch right now will pay very well and also if you finish college you can become an officer. Then after the armed forces you can go towards homeland security or the CIA, and if you don't want to join the armed forces try these two first.
2 :
interpreters that wear a us uniform make the same salaries as everyone else. Some do make a yearly bonus, but that is usually only for serving after your initial contract which will be 4-6 years. You might run into some trouble getting your security clearance due to have lived abroad, but other than that you should be fine. There is usually a good sign on bonus for interpreters, but a bonus should not be the reason to pick a job in the army, pick one you'd like to make a career out of in or after the army. If you want to become a nurse, look at the medical jobs for the army, they provide extensive training, and most states consider the training to be exceeding EMT-B licensing.
3 :
Only ENLISTED personnel are linguists. and no they don't make $150K a year. for the Navy at least, they do NOT translate, they only transcribe. Few personnel are actually out there in the thick of things acting as translators. depending on when you lived in those countries and WHY you lived there, you may be ineligible for a Security Clearance, which means no Linguist job. Pay and bennies are the same across all five branches. as for adventure.. well,if you want to be in the desert Translating for the CO , then stick with Marines and Army..and even then, you may not be doing that.
4 :
There are 3 entry level jobs in the U.S. Army that use language skills: 09L Translator/Interpreter 35M Human Intelligence Collector 35P Cryptologic Linguist 09L does not require a security clearance, but it requires a certain minimum proficiency in a middle eastern language. 35M does not actually require you to speak a foreign language at all; but if you do, the Army will take advantage of that, and pay you extra for it. Requires a Top Secret clearance. 35P (initially 35W) typically sends you to language school first, then you go out in the Army as a linguist. Requires a Top Secret clearance. All three of these jobs pay about the same, approximately $1,800 per months during training. The $150,000 is what you could potentially make as a civilian contractor after your service. I'm not sure if you will qualify for a clearance or not, the only person who can really tell you that is the Security Interviewer at the Military Entrance Processing Station. And, finally, I recommend the Army. I've been in the Army for 8.5 years, and I like it. My wife was in for 5 years as a linguist, and she liked it, too. Feel free to email me if you have any more questions. Good Luck By the way, if you do decide to go into the medical field later, the Army can train you as a Physician's Assistant, Physical Therapist, or Registered Nurse; regardless of what job you do in the Army.

What Countries in Europe is much like Latin America when it comes to taking care of the elderly

What Countries in Europe is much like Latin America when it comes to taking care of the elderly?
I'm referring that you see Hispanic people in Latin America and it's part of culture when someone in the family is old unable to care him/herself.Instead of dumping them to a nursing home one of the grown kids of the elderly parent/s takes turn caring for them at their own house. Also the Hispanic culture sees it as a disgrace to dump them in a nursing home like people here in America do it. So my question is What central and eastern European countries do the same and view it the same as Latin Americans?Would the following countries include France, Romania, Bulgaria, Russia, Poland, Czech, Finland, Croatia, Ukraine? I know that it's the same with Southern European countries such as Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece. Also that northern European countries such as United Kingdom, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, are just about or the same as Americans. I keep wondering why does it seem that non white i.e Africans, Asians, Native Americans are the same way when it comes to caring for an elderly.

Africans normally don't live that long. They usually die of AIDS, tribe wars, genocide, and other diseases before the age of 35.
2 :
I Think in Us (Latinos) Its Mainly on Like a Catholic (Karma) We Believe our Elders are very Important and Everyone knows they don't want to be treated like baby's but do not want to be abandoned into a place where they might take care of them but the Love Isn't there... Its Like the Saying.. " Treat Others the Way You Would Like to Be treated" Just My Opinion...
3 :
As an Italian.. I know that Croations, Serbians and Romanians (Just any Eastern Euro country) are VERY family orientated and look after their elderly Its an embarassment to send your parents to a retirement home in our culture
4 :
Basque and Turkey.
5 :
I would say Spain. By the way, Finland is in northern Europe.

I want to go to Oxford University :)
4 :
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, School of Fine Arts - It's in Greece or The University of Manchester, School of Medicine - England Spain would be amazing! I've only been there once, but it was beautiful!
5 :
Definitely Oxford!
6 :
Well I would either choose UK, US or Canada. If it's the UK=Oxford for sure, The US=Harvard or Yale... but they are also very elite... Or Canada it has wonderful universities, they're regulated by the government so money cant buy you a title... not that you would but in general.. And the way of living here is far better than in the US...
7 :
Edinburgh is a great place to live and study and is not too far from home so your folks could come and visit you. I think Canada would be amazing too though.
8 :
Northwestern University in Chicago.
9 :
I would love to study at Tokyo University or Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

The summer I was 11 I spent three weeks at a program for kids at Stanford University, and I knew from my first day there that it was the school I wanted to graduate from one day. It was a high bar to reach, but I worked from that summer forward on being a strong student so I'd be a worthy candidate, and I applied early decision last fall and was accepted in December. It's the only university in the world I have ever wanted to attend. You are incredibly fortunate to have a supportive parent who can enable you to study anywhere. I think your first step would be to research a multitude of universities for the ones that offer the field you wish to study and the atmosphere that suits your personality. Most colleges and universities have web sites that list their admission policies for international students, and many require that you apply in the fall. I applied to Oxford in the UK last year, and it was a very rigorous and time-consuming process that had to be completed by October. Keep in mind that your first year out of the house can be very challenging, and that you may become homesick and want to return to visit your family and friends over the breaks, so consider the time and cost involved in doing so, and ask yourself if you'd be happy living on the other side of the world such in Australia where the time difference would make it difficult to even call / IM your friends. If I was in your situation I would attend a university in Ireland or the UK, and then study abroad your 2nd year or over the summer. I hope to study in Salamanca, Spain one day because it's astonishingly beautiful and has an awesome vibe for young people. My cousin studied there a few years ago and had an amazing experience. My top picks for England would be Oxford and Cambridge, but they are both exceptionally difficult to get into, and you can only apply for one or the other in the same year. There are so many awesome universities just in London alone like UCL, Imperial College, Kings College, all the colleges within the University of Arts, and LSE, and elsewhere in England Royal Holloway and Leeds are amongst the ones that would be my top pick. It all depends on what you wish to study. If you wanted to be a writer, I'd recommend the University of East Anglia; if you wanted to study economics I'd suggest LSE. In Scotland St Andrews would hands-down be my first choice, and in Ireland I'd apply to Trinity. You apply to the majority of universities in the UK on this website, and you can do a course search of all the schools. http://www.ucas.ac.uk/ The US equivalent is Common Application: https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/default.aspx I wish you the best of luck. : ) ~ peace
